The pillars had been stripped of their marble and a false ceiling put in place. It's all been put right now and the gloom is gone, highlighting the lovely old mosaic compass rose floor and gorgeous plaster wall ornaments surrounding upper portals which bring light into other rooms. People can be seen waiting in the departure area which doesn't appear to have been restored yet. More of this grand old station's details tomorrow.
