Most Seattlites call this the Aurora Bridge because Aurora Avenue (Hwy 99) passes over it. Its formal name is the George Washington Bridge and it spans the ship canal from the Fremont neighborhood on the north (where a giant troll lives under the bridge and snatches cars!) to the West Lake / Queen Anne neighborhoods to the south. No, you can't see Tom Hanks houseboat from Sleepless in Seattle in this shot, that's further south along West Lake, but you do see part of a small collective of some Fremont liveaboards and houseboats. The bridge dwarfs the nearby Fremont Bridge, and because of its height has been much too attractive to despondent people jumping from it.

Massive!
(No more "dirty water" in Boston after the 4 billion water restoration project.)
Oooh, a clear sunny day! I remember those...
Wow! That's a fine looking bridge. I remember it when I visited in the summer of 2001.
May I invite you to visit my blogs? Just click on the links below please. :D

Hi Kim - thanks for commenting on mine - I'll add you to the list now - It will take some time to get round them all today - think there'll be in excess of 150 by the time I'm done tomorrow!
The first thing I thought was, "Wow, climbing that bridge could be a lot of fun!" :-)
Nice shot to see those structures of the bridge.
Looks like a busy river, the best sort
Neat-o! I'm glad that you captured the house boats in your photo too. It is not something one sees every day, especially the pinkish purple one.
I like the complex grid effect, and, of course, the houseboats which I would like to try to live on for awhile.
A nice sunny day for your pretty shot!
Another engineerings (and photographic) marvel!
A beAutiful pose. Sad comMentary on the jumpers though!
Impressive steel structure. Nice angle in your picture.
Thank you one and all for visiting SDP today. I am slowly making the rounds to each of your blogs and enjoying my way across many interesting and beautiful bridges.

lovely bridge!
That's an awesome bridge shot Kim. Love the boats and the water... all adding so much more character to the image. Very nice shot.
Thanks,
Wayne
Beautiful (as the rain is beating on the skylights...)
