Sea Serpent Sculpture Gone from Shilshole Jetty

MYSTERY!: What Happened to the Shilshole Bay Marina Jetty's Sea Serpent????

Here's a mystery for you: I was taking some photos of the Olympics when I looked down at several boats heading out of Shilshole Bay Marina. I noticed that the whimsical huge sea serpent sculpture that undulated atop the jetty seems to be gone. In the upper left of this photo you can see jagged bits of metal sticking up where the sculpture had been mounted for years. Anyone know what's up with that? The broken looking remains don't seem to indicate its gone for scheduled maintenance.

Someone said, "Enough is enough?"

Oh yes, I see the jagged bits. Maybe it was brought down during a storm.

Kim,

Thanks for visiting my blog and thanks for reminding me to add your blog to my list of links. I could never add all the Daily Photo Blogs that I should have listed, but Seattle of course is one that I should have put there a long time ago.

Since I lived in Seattle and the area for 10 years I always find visiting your blog interesting. In fact next time you are at Shilshole look for a green schooner named Terra Nova tied up in the Sail Boats at Shilshole dock. It should be right near shore and right behind the Leif Erickson statue. Terra Nova belongs to my wife and me, and we not only built the boat but lived on it for 21 years. She is now for sale since we move ashore.

The photo that you titled 5th Street Corner Café Scene is one of my favorite shots of all time. I think it does a great job of catching the life of a business man. The photo Klee Near the Canal I found interesting because I had just walked that trail along the canal a few days before you posted the shot. Not to mention it is a way cool shot! Also of course loved to see if any shots you have are of areas I recognize. We move to Alaska from Seattle in 1982 so it is getting harder and harder to see anything that hasn’t changed greatly.

Take care,

Marcel

Maybe he went for a swim! Probably got tired of just sitting there.

Abraham, you might be right!

Alexander, although we've had some storm damage to ferries, I haven't heard of anything in this particular area that could do this.

Marcel, oh dear, I was just joking with you about the list! But thank you, and I'm glad it prompted you to write me. I'm excited to learn about your boat and that you two built it and lived aboard. Now I want to hear more about your adventures! I will keep my eye out for Terra Nova, and hope you get a good buyer for her. She must carry so many special memories for you both.
And thank you for all the kind comments on the photos you've enjoyed seeing! I hope you can find familiar scenes among the shots to come. Best to you.

Helen, That's it! I'm sure you're right. ;^) What a hoot. Thank you!

Kim,

Yes Terra Nova has many special memories for us. Her hull was built in Vancouver BC and she has made many trips from Puget Sound to Alaskan waters. You can see some photos of here at this link: http://www.yachtworld.com/sas/ then cruise to boats for sale and click on Terra Nova.

PS. I figured you were joking but I have been enjoying your daily post for sometime.

Scrap metal is worth a good amount these days, maybe it was stolen.
