Here is a rare opportunity for a wealthy movie buff. The floating home used for exterior shots in the 1993 Tom Hanks & Meg Ryan hit romantic comedy, "Sleepless in Seattle," is available for sale for the first time in 14 years. Many visitors to Seattle ask to see the over 2000 square foot "houseboat" with the killer views of Lake Union. It is the tan one with green and purple trim peeking at the very end of a this private residence dock. There are only 500 houseboats / floating homes around Lake Union's shores, and I believe this is one of the very largest (4 bedrooms/2 baths) and has unobstructed views. Yes, that's the bench Hank's sits on during the fireworks scene, just visible at the end of the dock beyond that hanging flower basket. Visitors can only catch a full view from a respectful distance via one of the Lake Union tour boat operations. For other views of its setting, see my More Seattle Stuff page here, and see the real estate ad here.

Nice shot. I really like how the composition captures the cluttered, eclectic area. There's so much to look at.

I agree nice shot. I wish I could afford the house. In the early 70's we lived on a boat right next to this spot. It was a fun place to live and it was easy to head out sailing most evenings.

Do floating homes have the same real estate obligations as those attached to dry land foundations? Property taxes and things like that.

I read about this in the news. I guess I better start saving my pennies!!

As a film buff and someone who lives on an island that has it's own film industry, yes it got my attention.Interesting snippet of film trivia. It's a picturesque image, but not chocolate box, just as an image like this should be.

I heard about this too. I just can't imagine living in a floating home. Sleepwalkers, beware!

Couldn't you kayak by it and get closer?

I'm not a film buff so this is the first I've heard of it - looks a nice setting but if I were to have a floating home think I might prefer Monte Carlo.
