9 PM 9 Block View Up Pine Street

9 Block View Up Pine

It's 9:00 PM and you are looking up the 9 block grade of Pine Street from 3rd Avenue to Melrose. This view cuts straight through the heart of Seattle's downtown shopping district and over the cut of the I-5 freeway corridor to Capitol Hill where Pine angles to the right and becomes E Pine at Melrose. I know you'll recognize that change in pavement ahead. It 's those jazzy zig zag patterns that mark Westlake Center, a plaza area which is like a community gathering place on special occasions and during demonstrations. It is bounded by 4th and 5th Avenues. Prominent among the signs you can see are those for the Monorail, Mexico Cantina, Pacific Place, the Hyatt and the historic Paramount Theatre. Macy's and Nordstrom are tucked out of sight on the left hand side of the street. Summer sales bring shoppers out on these warm, bright weeknights. For another view, see my More Seattle Stuff page.

Quite a few people out in downtown nd lots of traffic. I think downtown Dallas turns into a ghost town after 6, even though they are trying to attract people. I like the Paramount sign.

I love this photo. The light, buildings. Did you stand in the middle of traffic to shoot this? Awesome.

This speaks to me of the essence of summer nights in Seattle. The light lingers into the night. Lovely cityscape.

I love the mellow, warm light in this shot. It makes the street activity seem more relaxed somehow. Then again, this is the magic hour, as they say, and the ideal time to photograph. Don't you wish you could arrange for several hours of it when you have a free evening?

Ah, the Paramount! I love that place and I enjoy this photo....

Most recently last year I saw Young Frankenstein on its closing night. I am a major Mel Brooks fan.

Must check what will be there in September or October...

Bravo, bravo, bravo for your two years with SDP! Sorry, I'm late to congratulate you, my children are on vacation and I'm not, so I have to manage my "hotel-restaurant-bank-taxi" and my days are quite busy... But you already know that I think so many sweet things about you and your blog :-)))
Have a nice day, Kim!
Oh, I also wanted to say I do like your today pic!

It's really funny I almost put the same picture of Madison Avenue, but around 7pm .I just looked at it again and the trees are in the middle exactly like yours!!
The only difference mine is Flat..
Flat because no hills..
Flat because of the colors subdued by a cloud of...humidity or...pollution!

Great capture, Kim! Isn't it amazing how much light there is at 9 PM? Try and remember that in December when it goes dark by 4:00 pm. :)

You get a lot of light at 9 p.m.

By the way, a belated happy second aniversary-- lots of hard work getting there. I know this will be an exciting year for you and your visitors.

Kim, I missed your blog for a few days. Nice photos!

This one is wonderful. I like the up and down parts of the street. We do not have such street here. Mashhad is located in a flat land.

Wow, this one hit a nerve with folks all over! Thank you so much for your comments and responses about it.
I'm sorry that my mom's illness is keeping me from the computer and I'm not managing to keep current on so many folks work or to respond to comments as I would like to. Thanks for understanding and dropping in anyway.

Great photo! This one is particularly great for me as it encapsulates much of the route I walk from work downtown back home to Capitol Hill. Thanks for all the gorgeous photos you share - keep up the great work!
