Getting Out on the Water

If you come to Seattle you will miss something essential about this city if you do not get out on the water during your stay. There are so many ways to enjoy the sights from Seattle's lakes and Puget Sound, from small paddle boats to large ferries and everything in between. If the thought of large bodies of water or bobbing about in small boats scares you or makes you feel queasy, trust me, just down a Dramamine 15 minutes before you board and pick a large sturdy vessel. You won't regret it. Dining near or on the water is no problem. You can tie up at a restaurant dock for brunch, grab a quick lunch aboard a ferry, or take an elegant dinner cruise like those offered during summer months aboard the Royal Argosy, seen in the foreground here. Just get out there!

We took our young Arizona grandson on a ferry ride this spring, after which he insisted we go up in the Space Noodle.

With my young grandchildren visiting, we have spent lots of time by water these past two weeks: ferry ride to Whidbey Island and fun on the beach of Useless Bay; hydro action on Lake Washington, playing on the ocean beach at our cabin in Rockaway Beach, Oregon.
In one way or another, water does play a significant role in summer vacations.
Yesterday we saw many of our local bodies of water tied together from the top of the Space Needle.

Incredible shot, Kim! We'll be returning to Port Townsend in about a week after a summer of travels. This shot across Elliott Bay to the Olympic peaks make the itch stonger. Thanks for sharing!

What a striking yellow sky, Kim! Lovely, lovely shot.

Plan to do just that, though I'm really a landlubber. We've been invited on a short cruise.

This photo is beautiful.

Kim, if you're going to insist on posting pictures like this I'm going to put my camera in the back of the closet and try knitting.

I've known for a long time that my chances of getting a nicely lit pic are better early in the day or late in the day. It is obvious I'm going to have to modify my lethargic ways and get out of my apartment after dinner.

I've never seen a sky that colour, it's terrific. What I've always liked though, we see it here too, is the gradual shading of the mountains the further away they are.

Well done Kim.

I've only been out that way once and my only time on the water was on the ferry. But I had some of the best clam chowder ever on that ferry! Good advice, Kim. I'll find more ways to get on the water next time! Beautiful image, as always.

Great pic.
My wife and I have an annual pass for the Argosy Cruises. It's very reasonable and you can jump on a boat almost anytime you feel like it.

I have been to Seattle countless times and I have NEVER been out on the water. What a travesty! Thanks for the recommendation. And what a fantastic photo!
