Decisions, Decisions

Which lane to get in? You can go north from the left lane. You can go south from the right lane. Or, if you are still undecided on the route, you can stay in the middle lane until the last minute and then decide which direction to go. After last night's candidate debate, perhaps you've figured out which lane you'll choose for the presidential election? :-)
It took me awhile to get used to some of Seattle's hanging traffic signs and suspended lights when I moved here for college many moons ago. It all looked so foreign. Does your community hang signs or traffic lights above roadways in this fashion?

Which way to go...that is the question. I've never seen traffic signs suspended in this fashion. Very interesting!

Is this down by S. Lake Union Kim, something about it looks familiar.

I've been to some cities where the only signal is hanging in the centre of the intersection. This can be unnerving if there is a truck or bus in front of you blocking the view.

We have them on the poles at the corner of the intersection as well so they are rarely out of view.

Can get a bit confusing, I suppose. Nice to have choices in this instance, though, not being locked into one lane only. Wonder how this well change with the redevelop of S. Lk Union over the next 10 years or so. The Mercer Mess will increase in the short term, but will the planners succeed in making that corridor more user friendly? Tim will tell.

Where I live, and most places I drive, the lights and signs are on big poles arcing out over the street, although some things in Vancouver are suspended in a similar fashion to your photo. The street lights in my world are hung with red at the top, yellow in the middle and green at the bottom. The first time I drove in Calgary it took me half an hour to figure out why their intersections looked so weird. They have hung the lights sideways - red on the left, yellow in the middle and green on the right. I wonder who makes these decisions?

Left foot--right foot--
Liberal--conservative--
Which way to turn---you know what happens when you sit on a fence too long---soon you will have picket up 'somewhere'.
Great blog, Kim, such great photos--I have only been a looky loo lately.
What is going to happen to the lovely blue wamu building. MB

Those arnt just there for construction? They look mobile, I guess its easier to deter people spray painting graffiti on them, nothing to climb on.

No matter how many times I try to drive back north on the I-5 from downtown, I get messed up. Sometimes I don't see the sign until the last minute...once I got off the Bremerton Ferry and followed everybody else and barely found my way back north...oh.

But here, it's just as bad sometimes!

So, is there a benefit to being in one of the side lanes? Does it split and go somewhere else shortly after the turn? Or maybe they just had a third lane and weren't sure what to do with it...?
