Peeking Duck

This duck came in close as I was squatting at the edge of Green Lake taking some photos of water lilies. Trying to capture a shot of it moving at close range proved impossible. For some reason the shutter button on the little pocket camera was being finicky and enough time elapsed between my press and the click that the poor duck was beheaded in the frame. But as I looked at the shot, I noticed her eye glancing at me out of the reflection, then the whole image flip flopped in my brain and she was swimming upside down. Fun! It's a gorgeous, sunny fall day here. Hope you are enjoying a bit of the outdoors this Saturday wherever you are.

Accidental shots are sometimes the best and I’d say you have a winner here.

I agree with Marcel, who commented the same as I would have. You could also entitle it "A quacker with a bite out of it." (Oh, that's baaaad.)

Well, Bibi, better than my lame (duck) title, eh? . . . oooooh, where's Michael when you need him. He has the BEST bad puns. ;^)

And, thank you Marcel! Hope you are in the sun like us today!

I think the reflection is a good substitute for the head.

It is a neat photo after all. My best cameras sometimes will not focus when on automatic and I panic and focus by hand. The battery is no where near being low but when I get home and put a new battery in it works perfectly. Maybe your shutter thing is related to the power supply.

Brilliant is exactly right! Aren't "oops" shots sometimes the most fun of all? I really love this one. It's a mind-bender and I think it's great!

SPectacular capture! If your shutter had worked properly, you'd never have gotten this magical shot. I LOVE this one.

I do like the decision to go with this one, it’s a lovely photo, and the duck can get stuffed!

Thanks very much, everyone!

Kris, you are too funny!

And Chuck, you are the only person so far that has caught the pun. . . It's not often on menus anymore anyway. I much prefer this version to those hanging in the windows on Stockton Street in my old town. :-)

You are such a brave, inventive photographer, Kim. I'd have discarded this - you saw the truth of it. And of course it's superb.
