3D Seattle Valentine

I saw her on a cold but sunny downtown street yesterday evening, apparently on her way home from her job as a 3D Valentine greeter for Scandia Jewelers. Midway through the crosswalk she closed her eyes momentarily. Hope all of you have a little celebration planned with your sweetie tomorrow. The most fun valentine I ever received from mine was a heart-shaped tin that he had the sushi chef from our local restaurant fill with all my favorite kinds of sushi. It was wonderful! What would you most like to receive for Valentine's Day?

I continue to enjoy your photos with selective blurring---I must learn how to do that!

I love Valentine's Day, but am missing my Valentine this year.

Wonderful, Kim. Love the figure and the effect. Such a wonderful rush of red it stops you in your tracks.

You and Nathalie have posted on Valentine's today. What I'd most like I actually get when tomorrow, Valentine's Day, Nathalie from Avignon DP is coming to stay for a couple of nights.

I love the expression on her face. As if she's with her fantasy valentine already. Your decision to blur the edges underscores this beautifully. What would I most like...do you think a day of univeral kindness would be asking too much?

Very nice shot. I like the zooming effect you got. Whenever I see anyone like that I always wonder what they really want(ed) to do in life; surely she never dreamed of being a walking valentine.

My photo today was inspired by your Street Lamp Detail Abstract from last month. Thanks for the inspiration and Happy Valentine's Day.

Bibi, sweet wishes to you in Belgrade. This is your first and my second without our sweeties. This month is a toughy with Valentine's day, our 30th anniversary, and what would have been Kurt's 55th birthday. I'm muscling through by choosing to remember and be present with the space that is there. . .not easy :-) I am wishing you well, too, and sending you my best on this and every special occasion you two shared. Your love was a dear man!

Jilly, You are so lucky! I would have loved that treat for Valentine's or any day!

Brattcat, you make me laugh! Whenever my husband would ask me what I might like for my birthday or some other occasion, I would always say, "Well, besides world peace, which I don't think you alone can deliver, I might like. . ." I'm with you. Even one day on earth with universal kindness displayed would be beyond tremendous, wouldn't it. I think I'll just try to imagine what that would look like. Maybe I will try to be universally kind all day tomorrow. Who knows what that might bring!

Juergen, thank you!

Clueless, very cool shot you made of the lamp and the old and new buildings! It's great to be part of a global community that influences each other in what we see and try for these daily shots. I love seeing everyone's work and just wish I could visit around a lot more. Thanks for sharing that!

Oh, and as to the focus, that's just a zooming effect, no blurring added. If you are using a zoom lens, you focus on the subject and as you click the shutter you turn your zoom ring quickly, and there are effects programmers have created to simulate it like here (Flickr's "Picnic" editor or I'm sure Photoshop must be capable of it. I got the idea from a photo of Ben's in Nelson a long while back).

Clear skies over Mt. Rainier, where we are headed in a couple of hours. I guess I could look out the front door and check the "eyewitness weather".

i wanted to say that I love your blog. I can't remember how i found it, but I look at it all the time. I moved away from Seattle (my hometown) 8 years ago, and miss it dearly. I'm now in the flat but beautiful-in-a-different-way midwest. I hope to return to Seattle soon.

This is one of my favorites of your photos, Kim. That look of reverie amid the swirly commuter rush. Wow, what a happy shot.

My best Valentine's Day was when my then-boyfriend/now hubby proposed! Jon and I actually always treat Valentine's Day as another anniversary of sorts! I love your sushi story. That's so romantic and fun.

I love the zoom effect, it really adds action to the photo. It's a hard technique to pull off. But, you did it with the skill of a seasoned photographer.

Kim, she looks like she's lost in a dream while everyone around her is simply rushing about, lost. It's like seeing love in action. And her intended doesn't need to be in the photo because we all know the feeling.

I love how you caught her with her eyes closed, like she's daydreaming about her own valentine.

We've both been so busy, we decided that we'd both like to spend the evening at home just cuddling and talking :)

I hope you can manage to be happy this Valentine's Day, Kim. But if today is a celebration of love, no matter when or what kind, then I think you have much to celebrate too.

Kim, I saw these girls at the Market yesterday. Advertising a downtown jewelry store. They were having a lot of fun wearing their hearts, and I'm glad you saw then and made a photo.

Sending my very best wishes to you today, and hoping your sweet memories are keeping you happy and warm. Happy Valentine's Day, Kim.

Thanks Chuck. Wow, that gal walked a ways. I caught her at University and 3rd and she walked to 5th before she was out of sight.

This is such a great photo - everything comes together - even the expression on the girl's face.

You do great work!

The girl with the "three-foot heart on" liked the picture, and sent this link to friends.

She walked for several miles.

Hi Kim...

Just thought you'd like to know my niece (Heather) was tickled by your photo, etc.

Bob

PS - that's a neat photo, too. I've tried the technique (zooming out) and have had so, so success. You pulled it off quite nicely, though!
