Diving Into Daylight Savings Time

Photo & Text Copyright 2009 Seattle Daily Photo. All rights reserved, including reproduction or republishing.

Did you remember to "spring ahead" into Daylight Savings Time? All but two states in the USA took the plunge at 2:00 this morning. Last night we had rain, hail, thunder and lightning, and snow! I sure wish congress would move daylight savings time back to its original parameters instead of the early start and late end dates practiced in recent years. After a lifetime of that rhythm, it's hard to adjust to starting before spring is even here. This is the neon clock and diver on the Olympic Athletic Club in the Ballard neighborhood, where you can take a plunge or get in a workout 24/7 and save a little daylight for other things. Hope you got to sleep in and are having a great Sunday!

i like this colorful signage. it looks very retro. I also liked your banana slime shot and loved the gingerbread hinges. Great captures. I enjoy following your site.

Great neon sign and appropriate for daylight savings time. Have you ever realized the number of clocks that have to be manually adjusted when the time changes?

I think I'm pretty average and I have about a dozen clocks that have to be changed each time the clock changes. For example the clocks on the stove, microwave, kitchen wall clock, mantle clock, living room clock, laundry room clock, iPod, clock radio, wristwatch, car, and then there is my wife's clock radio, car clock, wristwatch, and probably a few I've overlooked mentioning (and changing). And to top it off, I'm tired because of losing sleep, but hey it's Sunday and I'm sitting here drinking my morning coffee and the unseasonably warm temperatures are melting most of the snow we got last Monday. Have a great Sunday.

Fabulous post for today - that photograph positively zings all the way to France! Great photograph.

It's not yet happened in Europe - we wait till March 30th. I had my girlfriend in Ohio complaining in an email today. She feels as you do, Kim.

Love the photo, with the merging pools of intense red and cyan, the gentle curve of the swimmer and the hard 8/12 of the clock, and the target in the clock's center. She's trying to hit a spot of water in a circle/octagon of fire.

The change in DST is idiotic but there are even stupider national time policies, like India and China having only one time zone each.

You are right it is hard to adjust to the earlier setting of the time. for a zillion years it was April for Spring ahead. Now it doesn't seem to mean so much. We got a bunch of snow last night. It is all white up here. MB

Yes, we have to wait a little more... This is a great shot and a fantastic idea!

I know this place! At least the sign, but haven't seen it at night. Great shot, and perfect illustration for Daylight Savings Time.

Ours rolls around in a week or so, I think.

Because we have a "smart clock" we have to remember to reset the time four times a year. We set it for the new dates, and we have to adjust it when the clock automatically changes it.

I noticed only two people who came into church an hour late this morning. Not bad.
