Sounders Flag and Colors

Yesterday was opening day for the Seattle Sounders Football Club. The occasion was marked by their flag flying from the Needle and their green and blue colors lighting up the night. Of course, not being tuned-in to the soccer scene, I was clueless. I drove through the Pioneer Square area earlier in the afternoon and noticed droves of people in bright green jackets and Occidental Square filled with people and balloons. I wondered what was up. Later I was taking some shots from First Hill and not only saw the Pioneer Square area was still full of pedestrians, but Quest Field was adorned with international flags and the green and blue flags of Seattle's new MLS soccer team with an old and beloved name, the Sounders. Later I took a walk to the park and noticed the flag atop the Needle and the green light. Seattle is a serious sports town and had a sold out crowd to embrace a new team. And they won their first match!

I think that's one of the most interesting pictures of the Needle I've seen. Fantastic.

That's pretty amazing that your city gets so pumped over soccer. Down south, we're too entrenched in college football to even know what soccer is!!! Great shot Kim!

Thanks guys! Most people tire of this "standard" view of the skyline, and I refrain from posting shots like this too often, but the colors were AMAZING, and it was a special occasion that I just happened to be there to record without knowing beforehand that the lights and flag would be making the scene a bit different than normal. And yes, Dsole, this was with a tripod.

Great shot, Kim! I'm glad Seattle is really embracing the new Seattle Sounders FC team. Their first game was amazing! I'm glad the Space Needle joined in on the celebration of Major League Soccer coming to Seattle.

Kim this is a beautiful shot. And the shout out about soccer is always a plus. I'm actually headed up that way this coming weekend for the match vs Real Salt Lake. Although I'll be cheering for the visiting team I'm very excited to join in with the great fans in Seattle.
