Theme Day: Shadows

Fishnets at the Locks

Photo & Text Copyright 2009 Seattle Daily Photo. All rights reserved, including reproduction or republishing.

CDPBloggers' theme for May is shadows, so I'm showing you Fishnets at the Locks: Everyone gets an instant pair of fishnet stockings shadow-cast on them while crossing the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks at sunset. :-) Cutting through the locks is a popular route across the ship canal for cyclists between the Burke-Gilman trail and the bike route that leads to the Elliott Bay waterfront and downtown, but they must walk their bikes while on the premises or face a hefty fine. When you slow down to a walk it gives you a chance to notice the great blue heron that sits most evenings on a line spanning the ship canal, and you can see the silhouette of the evening BNSF train rumbling over the iconic Ballard railroad bridge. A slow mo portion to the commute, like slow food, can be really pleasant at the end of a long day at the end of a long week. Happy Friday everybody!

I agree. It does us all good to just slow down once in a while. Nice shot Kim, and Happy Friday to you too!

Kim: You never cease to amaze me with your connections to themes and thoughts. Shell has it just right that your writing is superb and makes an interesting photo stand out.

It's a great picture, so many elements, but I can't help thinking how funny it would look if you PhotoShopped some seams up the back of the legs. '~)

Hi Kim, yours are the only fishnet stocking shadows I have seen ... also, one advantage of slowing down is you might then get to appear on Seattle Daily Photo and become famous for your fishnet stockings (smile).

A great catch for the theme, Kim! The fashion conscious rider goes all out with matching fishnet tires. Super place to visit and doesn't cost a dime. A Seattle treasure!

Hi Kim, great composition you achieved here, beautiful light and colors and about the free wifi program sounds light years to get something like that in MC, there a lot of spots of wifi but not for free, only if you are paid subscriber ($ 75.00 US Dlls. a month) Thank you so much for your thoughts, you are one of a kind.

Thanks so much for stopping by to comment, guys. PJ, you crack me up. One more reason I need to learn Photoshop and start using it. Raf, what an eye for detail, and you are right about this place being a treasure. In my college days my roomates used to spend a lot of time down there, and I never went with them. . .but I've rectified that in the ensuing years :-). I thought I was going to catch flack for featuring, ah, bike pants from this perspective. Hope the poor guy's a good sport.

Sorry that I could not visit around today, but will be catching you all over the weekend. I saw thumbnails of some great shots and look forward to a closer look.

And Karen, many, many thanks. How nice of you to feature the CDPBlogs and SDP on your blog, which is way cool. All the photography enthusiasts who hang out here will love it. I love your shot of the Showbox and train poster on a bright day, and loved reading many of your posts. I will be reading along regularly, and folks can find a link to Karen's Svenska Studios Blog in my sidebar. You guys have GOT to see the series of photos she took of penguins in Antarctica.

Very creative theme day choice, Kim and I love your commentary about slowing down too. That's exactly what I did over the weekend!
