Partial House?

Partial House?

I did a double take in the Madrona neighborhood when I walked past this seemingly partial house. Well, I guess it's okay, since this is about what anyone can afford anyway, right? :-) Design-wise, I thought the dummy windows were an ingenious element. Being butted up against the other structure, the roof peak and windows sliced off gave the illusion that I was looking at a house behind a house, obscured from full view by it, but, not so. I have a feeling this is studio space, but have no idea.

The house looks rather shy, as if it's afraid to come out from behind the other house. But it's an eye-popping red! Not a shy color at all. This is such an interesting capture.

A very ingenious structure. I think the owner actually has a great sense of humor!

Perhaps the creative person who has this house or studio is a follower of Kim's blog and can enlighten us all...a most curious find and a great photograph.

Ha. That's something new. As Hilda pointed out the person who did this must have a great sense of humor.

Thanks everyone. I think you are right about the designer's sense of humor or whimsy. Don't you wish all architecture could be expressive and fun, showing a little more of the personality and wit of the person who dreamed it up? Necessity being a frequent mother of invention, I love seeing how people work within the constraints of budget, space, use, codes, and materials and come up with something creative and thought provoking.

This house reminds me of Harry Potter architecture. Like the magical house that was appearing out of the other house just got stuck a little over halfway out.
