Skywatch: Is It Any Wonder

Skywatch: Is It Any Wonder

. . .that so many Seattlites love to fly given the beautiful, interesting skies we have to wander? :-) It's my first time to participate in Skywatch Friday (hello!), although I'm always taking photos of the sky and of aircraft. I never thought of it much when I was in college here, but now I'm keenly alert to all the air traffic and I love to watch it all. I have some Flickr friends who are pilots and plane enthusiasts, so when I get a shot of something unusual, they help me identify the craft. I keep adding to my series called "Seattle Skies." Probably the most interesting one I've shown you was this, an Alaska Airlines jet, one of two with a very "Dis"tinctive livery, that I happened to catch a shot of from Olympic Sculpture Park. That building on the left is Rainier Tower, and the one on the right is the Olympic Hotel.

I love that shot with the buildings and plane. Welcome to Skywatch Friday. I think this is my second time, since I was gone last week. Sky pictures are fun. The patterns of the buildings here make the shot really interesting. About the planes, I saw one painted as a fish one day, and I don't think I got a photo of it. It could have been Alaska Airlines. I love the trend of painting something cool on the planes. The Disney one may be bit much, but I'm not a big Disney fan. We once had a van with the Mona Lisa on one side and a bison on the other. The planes are just bigger canvases than a Ford Econoline! Nice!

This is such a terrific shot, Kim!
Isn't it wonderful to see blue skies here in Seattle! And I love the plane!

I tried to send you an email in regards to the comment you left on my blog -- I do respect your privacy, so I'm going to put it here.

It is such fun to discover someone in the "neighborhood" through another blogging community like Skywatch! And you are more than welcome to come and rant here anytime! I don't do it all the time, but there are some things I just can't keep my mouth shut about!

Hi Kim, thank you for your lovely note on San Diego DP! It sounds like you have a fun afternoon planned for yourself! Your talk about aircraft made me think of an outdoor theater here in San Diego that sits directly below the flight path. When a plane flies over during the performance the actors freeze until the plane passes. Hope you have a great weekend too!

Kim, Welcome to Sky Watch. Super sky shot. I was oohing and ahhing the clouds and a plane wandered into my sight. Excellent. MB

Always interesting skies--in Seattle and everywhere. Participating in SkyWatch has made me more observant of what's up. Blogging in general has made me more observant. (If you come up with an odd image, share it with us on Odd Shots Mondays.)

The perspective on this is terrific, with that plane as the point of focus. I'm amazed that you've never done sky-watch Friday, Kim.

Wonderful, wonderful!
I have a couple of great shots of Seattle skies with airplanes. They just seem more picturesque in the sky up there! Love your photo of THE trademark building & the friendly skies.
