It was bound to happen in a city that loves whimsy and caffeine. You've seen "Hammering Man," either the giant articulated iron worker sculpture here in Seattle in front of SAM (I showed you part of him in an iPhone shot here) or in one of his other incarnations across the US. Well, meet Coffee Drinking Man, the logo that's been translated into a new 14 foot high sign that went up above its small Pike Street coffee roaster in mid July. He is quite a hit with everyone in the neighborhood, and marks the location of Seattle Coffee Works, who moved digs this year from 111 Pike to its current shop at 107 Pike.

Cool click!!
That's a man after my own heart! Very cool to turn "Hammering Man" into this log. I remember how much I liked the Minneapolis Hammering Man when I lived there. Fun photo!
I love this stuff. He'll definitely do his part to help boost sales.
That's one big coffee man. The building is fascinating. Wonderful old brick, or so it seems, and then on top, those very modern balconies. An unusual mix of styles in one building.
I saw and snapped this guy this summer, too! Do you know that there's a beer-chugging man outside a bar just as you exit I-5 on 45th? Have a look! The bar's on the left side of 45th as you go toward UW!
I like him, I wonder if he is going to get a coffee drinking girlfriend anytime :)
Thanks so much, guys!
Jilly, those balconies are from a building to the east of this one. This one is only as tall as that cornice you see. The other is a new condo highrise.
Bibi, I've taken shots of Beer Chugging Man from that tavern in Wallingford. I'll have to dig those up.
Hilary, wouldn't that make a great contest! "Design a girlfriend for Coffee Drinking Man!" :-)
