iPhone Wednesday #38: Passing By S'bucks

This is one of almost 90 Starbucks locations in Seattle. The logo and the business have undergone many changes since the first shop opened on Western Ave at Pike Place Market in 1971. Inspired by Peet's Coffee in Berkeley to roast fine coffees and sell the beans, grinders, and coffee pots, they later also went into the espresso beverage business and opened shops worldwide. Here the coffee shop's logo is reflected in the glass of framed photos in a wall display while a man hurries past the shop window. Ubiquitous Seattle, or anywhere on the planet?
It's my iPhone Wednesday shot where the image is taken and edited with the iPhone and various apps.

Not only inspired by Peet's - when they first opened, they also bought their coffee from Peet's!

When Alfred Peet retired just a few years ago, the original group (not the current group) of Starbucks investors bought Peet's. Their corporate office is still in Emeryville. About a two years ago, they opened a new roasting plant in Alameda out at Harbour Bay. They've never quite been able to sort the new plant our and are having horrible problems with the consistency of their coffee. Sad to see.

Here's Jackie Mason's take on Starbucks.

Absolutely love the shot. So much in this photograph. And, of course, I love coffee so I'd probably be inside!

I had no idea about the connection between Starbuck's and Peet's. I used to live near the original Peet's and was served by Alfred many times. Does this count as a claim to fame?

Yep, that logo has lived through a couple of beatings hasn't it? Nice shot Kim.

That would be me, most of the time. I'd far rather frequent a local independent shop!!

Thanks all! And yes, Louis, I've told the story of the Peet's/Starbuck's roots so many times here, I don't go into it much anymore. Sorry to hear the new plant is having problemos.

Carolyn, old Vine Street patrons unite! :-). You are a star for sure. So many good ideas began in B-town. . .then got big and emploded. Remember the Nature Company next to 9 Patch by the Solono tunnel entrance? I saw at Christmas time that 9 Patch is no longer there. . . Nature Company got purchased by the Discovery Channel. I wish the little Berkeley fish would just remain little :-). Ah well. . ..

Awesome! Gotta love Starbucks and iPhone. I still have to work on editing photos on my iPhone. What are your favorite apps for that??

MCH, for general all around editing I love Photogene. I've tried the Photoshop iPhone app, but it isn't particularly good. Best Camera is simple and fun, Camera Bag gives a lot of great effects. I also really like TiltShift, Blur, Color Splash, and my newest fave is Hipstamatic. . .you can choose from many lenses, films, flashes, and gels/filters and the shots come out awesome. There are a gazillion photo apps, and I've tried most all of them. Read the reviews to get a sense of some that are buggy. Photogene costs more, but is really worth it to me as an all around photo editor that works well in all its functions. Hope this helps you find some faves of your own.
