Bringing Down the Jib

Summer evenings on the Sound are gorgeous. These boats were among many returning to Shilshole Bay Marina at sunset and crews were readying to take down the sails. The yellow evening light made shadow puppets of a couple people on the far boat, while the yellow and red jib cast its reflection like a lantern upon the water.

What a shot, Kim! The light on the sails, the silhouettes of the two men, the water and the orange reflections, the mountains, the grasses in the foreground - all adds up to a beautiful photograph and the feeling that these guys have had a good day's sailing. A real feel-good scene.

Excellent shot, Kim. See the crew through the sails is a wonder.
I go to 10th St. Marina in Everett to see similar sights. Sailboats add an air of wonderment for me. MB

The word verification word is 'redhot'--exactly!!

Wonderful photograph. And the silhouettes of those two are like the icing on the cake.

Thank you one and all. It was a beautiful evening and I was looking for parking (unsuccessfully!) in the packed lot near the jetty when I spied this sight out my car window. I stopped the car so I could look through the space between two parked cars, rolled down the window and began shooting. The boats were moving so quickly I had to move the car once more past parked cars to get the shot. I couldn't get out of the car, just stop briefly and shoot from the driver's seat as there were cars waiting behind me. I was very glad to nab the shot at all with just a 24-70mm lens! Thanks again.

I just wanted to come back and look at this again. I can't believe you got it on the fly, and from a car. It's really special.
