Theme Day: Cemeteries & Tombstones
Photo & Text Copyright 2007 Seattle Daily Photo. All rights reserved, including reproduction or republishing.
It's October 1st, and that means first of the month theme day for the City Daily Photo Bloggers. 103 of our over 200 members have chosen to show you what graveyards in our cities have to reveal. Here in Seattle there are several really lovely cemeteries. One of the most visited is Lake View Cemeteryon Capital Hill where the incredible martial arts film star Bruce Lee's grave site is. I took this detail shot in the rain yesterday evening. This memorial stone is almost as tall as I am! For a full view of the side by side memorials for Bruce and his son, Brandon Bruce Lee, please visit my More Seattle Stuff page.
Hey, before you take a trip around the globe to grave sites and cemeteries in the other international cities below, please take a moment to leave me a comment to let me know you stopped by. And as you visit the other cities, remember that there are time zone differences, so if you don't find a photo up now, check back there later in the day.
Hi Kim! Now, I was taking mental bets as to whom you might post that was/is famous in Seattle...and this one went right off my radar. It is a great stone.
Well Norma, Jimi Hendrix grave is down in Renton, and Kurt Cobain doesn't have a grave. I'm trying to think of some other Seattlites of notoriety, other than founders, etc. Who were you thinking of? -Kim
Kim, vous semblez bien parler le français! Interesting tombstone. I didn't know Bruce Lee had been buried in Seattle. Every time I visit your blog I am sad when I think I turned down an offer to go and teach at Seattle university a few years ago. It was just a one-year job, and at the time my back hurt a lot and I feared I might not "look healthy" :-)) I wish I had said yes!!!!
I came, I saw and I am leaving a comment behind :) I had no idea that Bruce Lee's grave sits in Seattle......it's a revelation to me ......and I am glad you featured it here ...
Add me to the "didn't know that" list. And the other shot of the two stones together is great also ... in b/w I never would have guessed that the marker is red.
I had just finished looking/reading San Diego Daily Photo's post before I checked my e-mail and found your comment. You are so right about its being even more tragic than what I copied and pasted for everyone to read at my blogs about Lone Fir Cemetery.
I cannot wait to show your theme day post (and the extra) to my sons. Thank you for going out into the rain to get the photos.
I know I'll enjoy your Flickr bridge photos! Thanks for telling me about them.
I'm surprised how many folks thought the color of the granite to be unusual. Had it not been wet with rain it might have looked more pink than reddish. I have see this color stone used in many graveyard monuments. It might also interest you to know that red is a favored and powerful color in Chinese American culture and not "girly" at all. Thanks so much for all your comments!

ReplyDeleteThanks for your visit to Arlington DP!
Oh! Now I know where Bruce Lee's tomb is!
ReplyDeleteHappy Theme Day!
I love red, it makes a striking photo. I am a traditionalist though and I think I care more for the old granite stone gravemarkers. I love it in B&W.
ReplyDeleteIt is an original color for a tomb. I like it.
ReplyDeleteyes indeed a very beautiful tomb bit girly but its great.
ReplyDeleteA big stone for a big star, is that what you say ? Looks quite simple, even if it's big.
ReplyDeleteThis is one of my son's favorite stars.
