The details of the brass and copper Deco doorway of Amazon.com's headquarters are really fun to look at. The etched glass in the transom above is casting shadows inside the entryway. This building was originally a hospital, and part of the campus still houses the Pacific Medical Center and its imagining services. I had just purchased some books on line the day before I took this shot and thought it was too bad this wasn't a distribution center and I could just pick them up. More shots here.
The brass and copper are beautifully intricate.
ReplyDeleteMy son used to work for Amaozon. He was not in that location, though. I don't know if they were using it when he was with the company.

So funny, that longing of yours for a real bookstore. Amazon is doing a brilliant job at moving us away from our independent local bookstores. I love the photograph. But I love our small brick and mortar bookstores, too.

ReplyDeleteBrattcat, Oh trust me that our local independent booksellers have put several children through college on my patronage :-). However, when I order books for my workplace the procedure is to use on-line sources. Some independent booksellers place their inventory ON Amazon.com for sale to people anywhere, so I think that mindset Amazon has is a win-win. It's the chain bookstores that are the in-between land in my mind.

Absolutely fantastic. So good to see that Amazon are re-using an Art Deco building. I hope they are looking after it. From the doorway it seems so.

That's so understated for Amazon. You'd figure there'd be big neon lights, or life-sized books, or something. Great picture!
ReplyDeleteI have to watch my Amazon "addiction"! I'm a sucker for a used book. Only prob I had was my French workbook. I didn't flip through it when it arrived and it had several chapters already filled in. Actually I could use the help -HA
