I came across these elderly baby dolls among some tables of vintage collectibles for sale at the Fremont farmers market. How loved each might have been once upon a time cannot be known, except what is surmised by the obvious use each has seen. They are dreaming of their once busy days, I guess, and perhaps will come to be cared for again by a child if someone buys them and reunites them with some missing body parts and some new clothes :-).

ReplyDeleteI just love this. Old and sometimes dismembered dolls in flea markets are ghoulishly fascinating. I've shot this subject a few times myself.

ReplyDeleteOld doll babies. I never wanted a doll when I was little, I only wanted horses but my mother did make me a rag doll I had on my bed.
ReplyDeleteI stayed at The Inn at Virginia Mason. Very nice with a good restuarant. I did get away from the hospital on Tuesday and wandered a bit. I was going to go to the Frye but got intrigued by St. James Cathedral and took a bunch of pics and even stole a flower but God saw me so I figured it was OK. MB
These dolls are a little freaky, but I really like this photo. The back ground dots seem to match the dolls' eyes.
ReplyDeleteDolls are such a specialised subject for collectors. I wish I knew more. Bet the Doll Museum in Monaco would love this lot. Funnily enough, when Nathalie was here we wandered a market and we photographed some dolls but they had their legs and arms intact. I hope these find their missing limbs and get to live with a child again.
ReplyDeleteI had a doll stolen from my house that had a face like the center shut eyed doll whe had arms and legs from the knee down in same material as the head and a cloth body. Does anyone have any idea the worth of such a doll?
