In Any Language: PEACE

This is maple wooden flooring created by artist Ann Hamilton with raised text which imitates typeface. It covers 7,200 square feet of the first floor reception, check out and literacy areas near the entrance to the Central Seattle Library. It is quite striking and got me to thinking of how many ways we could write "peace."

Kapayapaan is the Filipino word for peace. And there are about 170 variations for PEACE in this country. :) have a nice day!

How ever many ways there are to write it, it doesn't seem like enough sometimes.

Anyway, beautiful photo. I visited the library this spring, and apparently missed this. :(

Love it! Wood work gets you back in touch with nature, and the enscription looks fanatastic.

Wow thanks for sharing this! We really need to be reminded of Peace especially today with all the war and violence around.

beautiful artwork. I didn't know her. Is she family of the artist Hamilton Finlay? Her works actually is quite similar.

A fan of this too - love the angle, the shades and the 'picture being worth a thousand words' connection.
