Salmon Waves

Photo & Text Copyright 2006 Seattle Daily Photo. All rights reserved, including reproduction or republishing.

Pictured here is a detail of Paul Sorey's Salmon Waves sculpture installation at the Ballard (Hiram Chittenden) Locks above the fish ladder viewing area. There are seven stainless steel "waves" and they contain special LED lights that at night display migrating salmon in blue light swimming in the air around the waves (to see this amazing effect, click on the link above). Your photos of the sculptures are awesome! A city that honors art has my respect, and I thank you for sharing this with us! I wish that we had as much public art as we have street murals--a different kind of visual delight. Perhaps I should look harder?!

Very very cool shots Kim! I'm enjoying your photos.

Good photo! It reminds me so much of one you took a while back - (I just went and looked it up) on September 10. Same play on scale, confusing the eye. Excellent!

I really like this shot Kim. You have a flair for capturing this type of art work so well, and making it even more "artsy".

I am sure I left comments on this photo and the plane in the sky, but for some reason don't see them. I love both of them!

This is a great shot. And the sculpture looks really interesting, though I'm still not quite sure how that swimming fish thing works. (I clicked the link, but I think you have to be there!)
