Seattle City Hall

No, it's not the architect's model; this is the city hall seen from the top of the Smith Tower (thanks Josh). I've shown you other features of this complex, but this gives you the full picture of this "green" campus. Yes, that is grass on the roof (the same architects helped plan the Ballard branch library, which also has a grass roof).

What's the purpose of grass on the roof i mean who uses it and wouldn't it be better to have car parking spaces?

I agree with Christos.. even it's a little weird... it seems a little bit left down, i don't know if you understand my bad english... what is its aim to be there?

Oh, I'm surprised some of you haven't heard of green roofs. Let me clarify, no mowing goes on, and there is no public access to the roof. The purpose for a green roof: "Both municpipal greenroofs require minimal maintenance and are estimated to reduce annual storm water runoff by 50 to 75 percent. This, combined with both building’s extensive water harvesting systems, helps to reduce the impact on local stream watersheds and salmon habitat."

These are smart roofs, designed for conservation of resources and low environmental impact. So, remember the photo of the Salmon I posted for the theme day on "something that is disappearing"? This is one way the city can model for it's citizens to start addressing one of the contributing factors to dwindling wild salmon habitat.

PS, Josh, thanks for catching my typo--that's SMITH tower rather than Sears tower, which is way east of eden, or at least the Emerald City. -K.
