Former Military Grounds at Discovery Park

So many urban SDP shots lately, lets go for something a little more pastoral today. Out along the bluffs of the Sound is a wonderful and versatile open space called Discovery Park. It's noted for its spectacular views and is a haven for flora and fauna. There is a large population of eagles there. Part of the grounds used to be a military installation called Fort Lawton. A building still in use as a residence is visible beyond this meadow where swallows dive and swoop for their evening meal, and wild sweet peas grow in abundance. I saw swallows, hummingbirds, spotted towhees, gulls, robins, rabbits, and northern flickers (see my More Seattle Stuff page for a peek at some of them). Hope you all enjoy a wonderful Friday and can get outdoors to enjoy the dwindling summer days!
