Cell phone dude takes his bearings: "Uh, where am I now? Oh, uh, yeah babe, Looks like I'm in Fremont, the Center of the Universe! Be home soon!" This large display is on the side of Sonic Boom music store in the Fremont district of Seattle, known for its excentric artistic and free spirited community. This mural is a bit on the formal , less spontanious side for this art form, but still uses the main medium of graffiti artists everywhere--spray paint on the side of a building. You might like to see the collection of a wonderful photographer here in Seattle, Slightly North, who captures a lot of the current street art, graffiti, stickers and the like. I'm glad this form of rather transitory art is being well chronicled.

Today 144 City Daily Photo Blogs are participating in this Theme Day, and now you can take a tour of fabulous graffiti all around the globe. Today, we are your art museum of current culture! Click on these links to start your world tour (remember there are time zone differences, so if a photo isn't live yet in your fave city, check back later. Or, you can use the visual portal to the right in the sidebar. Leave us a comment, too!).

Hilarious comment and great find Kim, well done!

Avignon is not in the list (still having trouble registering with CDP) but nevertheless participating in the theme day. I hope you come and visit.

It's murals like these that make me want to grab a couple cans of spray paint and hit the street. I'm not sure whether that's a positive inspiration or a negative one, though. :)

Love the cell phone dude!

Clever commentary to accompany your picture.

i love graffiti art! I came across your blog as I was researching things to do for my trip to Seattle in January. I've been a big fan since November and I've been voting for you everyday! I'm not in Seattle anymore but I have to say that you're so lucky to be living in such a wonderful city. Good luck in the blog war!

Ah, one of my favorite murals. Funny I didn't think of it when contemplating this theme day, but I guess I was focused on graffiti rather than murals. I was actually surprised and had a sort of sigh of relief when I saw "mural" included in the description as I grabbed the links for the rest of the world's contributions to theme day.

ciao, Kim

Ah Fremont--where else.......
I was in Concrete last month and there is a mural on the Police Department Building and it says
"Welcome to Concrete
Known as The Center of the Universe"
My Mother pipes up. "Hey, isn't that Fremont?" As I said 'Where else'. MB

It looks like it is out of this world! :) The little yellow Sonic Music label in the corner reminds me of the signature stamp on Japanese artwork.

Aww, thanks for the kind words Kim! :)

I have a shot of this same spot in my queue from a couple of days ago. It was a nice way to take my mind off the fact that Sonic Boom is now closed.
