Gnarley and Beautiful in Old Age

I've read recently that the Yoshino Cherry trees in the Quad at UW are reaching the end of their life cycle and that there are plans to replace them over time with younger ones. They were transplanted to the University Campus over 40 years ago when a highway project cut through their habitat near the Arboretum.

Beautiful pictures (yesterday and today) and cherry bloddom snow. Why do you have a little sunshine and only 60 or so miles away we are covered in snow? MB

MB, There is no real sunshine in this shot, maybe just a thinning of clouds let in a little more light in this shot. If you look at my other shots on Flickr, you'll see it was grayer than gray, and oh so cold. Our snow melted off in an hour on Friday but it hasn't warmed up. I'm thinking I going back to campus if we see blue skies next week, then there may well be really cherry blossom snow. There was only one tree on the whole quad that had any petals on the ground beneath it. Hope you have a cozy fire going!

The trees look great. I like the brick side walk also.

These trees are so noble, it will be a shame to see them go, I guess the new ones will eventually look like that.

I love it. Gorgeous, Kim!
I bet this looked great in color, too. It's pretty amazing how you can see so many varied shades of white.

Who knew so many existed?

btw, aren't trees 'gnarled' and surfer dudes 'gnarley'? lol

Great picture - there is an error in the coding for that link to UW - it should be obvious if you check it.

sweet shot.

It reminds me of the street I grew up on. On my street, the trees and benches have long since given way to wider asphalt and graffiti.

Amazing! This photo reminds me of what you would see in many magazines. Great job!
