Northern Flicker

Northern Flicker

I have come to love this woodpecker with the splash of orange under its tail and wings, that is as at home on the ground around our house as it is in the trees. I wasn't familiar with the Northern Flicker before I was introduced to them here in Seattle. A pair of them used to regularly drill our chimney cap in the mornings, as if it was their personal gong to summon the neighborhood to life. They also called their own name, "Flicker, flicker!" I was walking down Nob Hill St. when I saw this fellow perched in such a way that I could play around with the Space Needle beyond.

I like this bird too. I wish I had a pair of them here. Where we used to live there were some but not here, some 20 miles south of there.

I like the image you took on the Space Needle.

Very fine juxtaposition of images - the bird focused in the foreground and the Space Needle blurred in the background. Focus on nature, not technology? (60's technology anyway?)

I love your photography! I found your blog because you found mine (Middletown Daily Photo). Thanks for visiting.

I've never been to Seattle but I feel connected to the area, in part because of my "addiction" to Starbucks and because a cousin has a summer place at Whidbey Island.

The composition, color and subject matter of your photos is very inspiring and raises the bar for the daily photo sites. I'll be back often.

"Louis" has been negligent in thanking you for the link to his San Francisco Bay Daily Photo. "Louis" apologizes for the negligence, and he certainly appreciates the link!

Kim,

Thank you for the encourging words and for visiting my blog. I am a true amature by trying to learn a lot.

Love this shot of the Needle...don't laugh but we actually have a beautiful wood pepper grinder that is shaped like the Space Needle, it was a gift when we left the area.

Nice picture, Kim. I like Flickers too. I like the way they fly--flit--flit. MB

I like that the Space Needle is accoutrement to the bird, and not the other way around.

Beautiful Pic. We have what I believe is a redbreasted sapsucker woodpecker in residence at our place. He loves the alder trees and he's really skittish. I have not been able to get his pic. My husband and I have christened him "Woodrow," a bit more distinguished than "Woody." :>) I love visiting your site. My husband is from N.Seattle - we live in my native area in the Cascade foothills.
