I've seen a lot of bike messengers in the downtown core carrying their parcels in standard bags on their person, but this was my first fleeting glimpse of a business using a special cargo bike sold here in Seattle by Dutch Bikes on Shilshole Ave. in Ballard and made by Work Cycle in the Netherlands. (Here is a side view of the bike.) It has an elongated frame with a large wooden container between the rider and the front wheel. This rider was in Fremont . As he passed me I noticed some writing on the side, but didn't quite catch the name of his business.

Hi, Kim! Most gypsies in Belgrade would laugh their heads off at the price of this bike, which I viewed from the side through your link--$2,999! Here gypsies take old bicycles and remove the front wheel, adding a similar structure like in the link photo to the front that has two small wheels to balance it. That way they don't need the little side supports pictured. I'm sure enterprising small businesses whose owners are handy with tools could save themselves a fortune by buying bikes at second-hand shops! I'm off on vacation tomorrow for two weeks, but when I return, I'll try to photograph such a vehicle here to post on my blog and let you know!
P.S. Just clicked on the Dutch Bikes link, and they have an almost "Belgrade" model for over 2000 EUROS! Wooo!
I'm with Bibi, Dutch bikes are very, very expensive but they are soooo great! Très snob, in French, snobish in English?
As the price of gas goes up I bet you will see more and more of these. Makes good sense to me.
Way cool, Kim! Your photo and the cargo bike. Like to see these simple green changes in the city. Much to learn from the Europeans.
"Louis" saw bikes similar to this - perhaps from the same manufacturer - when he lived in Paris. It seems like this bike would sell in The People's Republic of Berserkeley and in San Francisco - though, no doubt, it wouldn't be popular on SF's hills - but it would be excellent for the messenger bikers in the Financial District.
