Hello Big Boy

Hello Big Boy

This is Bob. Bob is an icon from my childhood. He used to stand outside Googie style roadside establishments called Bob's Big Boy Restaurants. My family stopped at one on a road trip and I remember he was taller than me, taller than my dad, even. Well, I met him again the other night, only he was peeking at me from an antique and collectibles shop window in Seattle's Cascade neighborhood late at night. I feel an episode of the Twilight Zone coming on. . .

What a find! In the South this guy graced Shoney's restaurants. Weird!

Does this one have red checked pants? It's the Shoney's Big Boy!

I remember Bob...spent many a happy hour in his company.

Ooooh---but remember the "Bob" from Twin Peaks? Another kind entirely!

Nostalgic photo for me!

Ellen & D, I understand the original Bob's Big Boy in SoCal was franchised under many local names.

Bibi, I haven't seen any of Twin Peaks, so I'll have to look up that Bob. Susan of Not Strictly Seattle lives over on the Eastside and has featured some great Twin Peaks location shots. I see those sites when I go to visit friends in Snoqualmie, but that's the extent of my knowledge of TP lore.

I ate at one of these just a couple of months ago when I went back to Wisconsin to visit family. They're known as "Bob's Big Boy" restaurants in the Midwest. These are regional franchises and are known by many names depending on where they are located. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Boy_(restaurant)

Bob from Twin Peaks is scaaaary. I loved that series---just enough mystery, supernatural, and an addictive plot.

I heard it said one time that the model for the hair syle on the statues of Bob's Big Boy was . . . . the hair of Ronald Reagan. I am sure that is not true, but there is a resemblance.

Wow Kim, a walk down memory lane. We had a Frish's Big Boy when I grew up, complete with car hops!

A friend of mine has a Big Bob in his front yard. We like to pose with it when we visit.

I lived in Pasadena CA as a kid and we had a Bobs Big Boy just down the street on Colorado Blvd-complete with BIG BOY out front. I used to save my allowance to walk down there and eat a burger, fries and coke in one of the "coke" glasses....good memories-thanks Kim.
