In the heart of the neighborhood that brings you The Deadliest Catch comes the 34th annual Ballard Seafood Fest this weekend. I went last night and it is worth a drive from anywhere for the $8 alder-smoked salmon dinners prepared by expert Ballardites. Plus the streets are filled with crafts, art, heritage, music, beer and wine gardens, sustainability and community information, kids' activities, and lots more food as well as all Ballard's many fine restaurants and interesting shops. And have I mentioned the alder-smoked salmon, cooked on 22nd Ave NW with the smokers tended by workers from Ballard Oil and Pacific Fisherman Shipyard? Oh man. . . :-)

That has got to be the corniest photo I've ever seen. 8^) What a fantastic deal on the salmon!

There are so many things I like about this portrait - the colors, the woman's expression, even the angle of the corn. It inspires me to have some of the white corn I got at the farmer's market this weekend for dinner tonight. No salmon, though, sigh.

Yummm! Good capture!
Well shiver me timbers, I love smoked salmon!

I should have gone!

We're back to rain here already.

Composition, color and subject - all perfect! And you went and found someone with blue eyes to make it just right. Nice work.

Thank you for the visit. You have some great shots....this one stood out when I was on the city daily photo page earlier today. I have been to your beautiful city a few times and loved it. You make me want to go again.

That does it, I am having corn on the cob tomorrow night. Alder smoked salmon, well that sounds divine too! Great pic.

Well, I was there at the Seafoodfest in Ballard for a while. I managed to hear the lutefisk eating contest- too crowded to see, and it was over in about 5 seconds! We were doing garden touring and stopped by to check it out. Fun.
I love your blue eyed corn eater.

Yes, the blue eyes do really make the photo...but her hair helps, too. Her eyes stand out due to her garb, but her hair...if it were darker or lighter it wouldn't have been as stunning. The yellow against the blue is really fabulous. You catch colours so well.

Well, two of my favorite foods Kim -- fresh corn on the cob (with lots of butter) and alder-smoked salmon... and the photo is stunning!

Ah, the wonderful choices of what to do on our beautiful, long, long days here in the Pacific Northwest. I can taste that corn on the cob! Yummy.

I've enjoyed browsing your recent posts, too.

Just seeing this shot in the portal made me hungry. I've not had corn on the cob for years. You see it here in plastic packaging - imported I think - and it doesn't appeal - when there is so much fresh stuff about. I'll keep an eye out for a fresh one.

Great shot - as always, Kim - so much colour, her eyes - the detail of her fingernails. I don't think she'll have the lipstick for long, though.

Yum! I hope that the corn was dripping with butter!

There was a time when I loved to eat sweet corn like this lady. But with age and partial plates and things one doesn't understand, I now cut it off the cob and eat it with a fork.

Still the photograph is nice to see and nary a dribble of corn juice do I see.

Glad the corn looked inspiring to a few folks. Nothing says summer in the States to me like tomatoes, corn, watermellon, peaches, and berries. My east coast branch of the family gets a white corn called "Silver Queen" fresh from a farmer's stand and cooks it that same afternoon, served up with steamed clams. . .it's our family's favorite summer meal, and the corn oh so sweet. As much as I love the west coast, we can't get corn that is as sweet as back east, although it's still good.

MB, I had to pick my daughter up at the airport about the time the torchlight parade was happening. They had the viaduct shut down, so I was way out of the way on I-5 coming back and so we didn't make it. I went to the seafoodfest instead. I hope you went and took photos or watched via TV.

Today's shot was a candid. I was waiting in line for an ear of corn when I glimpsed something purple and yellow out of the corner of my eye. I raised the camera up and just had time to get a close up of the young woman taking a first bite of the ear she purchased. She never noticed me and walked happily away enjoying her corn, as did I mine.
Thanks to each of you for stopping by!

Grilled salmon is one of my favorite foods. Did you say $8??? Oh, you break my heart - but happy to know that others are able to enjoy it. :)

While I was busy running with Hamsters (who served a delicious plank grilled salmon, by the way) it looks like you and Leif Erickson have been cavorting on Market Street. Great colors, and I really admire the yellow corn with peaches and cream complected consumer. Lovely!
