Theme Day: Sister Cities

No, this is NOT Seattle! Today CDPBloggers are showing you photos of our sister cities around the globe. Bergen Norway is the second of Seattle's 21 official sister cities (adopted in 1967; Kobe, Japan was first in 1957, and 19 others have come since). Like Seattle, Bergen is a port town and very beautifully situated. King Olav the 5th of Norway came to Seattle in 1975 and dedicated a Nordic heritage plaza in the Ballard neighborhood called "Bergen Place," which features a large colorful mural depicting life in Bergen, as well as stone benches carved to honor Norway, Iceland, Finland, Sweden, and Denmark. Many Seattlites trace their heritage back to Norway and the other Scandinavian countries. Photo, "Bergen Harbor," is by Jonas Smith, http://www.flickr.com/photos/jonassmith/. See who your other favorite City Daily Photo Blogs' sister cities are around the globe.

I had no idea Seattle had 23 sister cities...I guess if you are a city the size of Seattle you can handle that many. Nice shot.

I think I heard that Bergen gets more rain than any city in Europe (at least). Makes a good match for Seattle. Or it did. Anyway, that would be a delegation I'd like to join.

23 sisters cities!!! I don't know Seattle or Bergen but I imagine they are both beautiful port towns.
Have a nice day, Kim!

What a gorgeous photo. I love all the colors and the colorful water. I didn't know Seattle had so many sister cities either. I do remember Kobe, Japan as one. MB

I think there's an echo across the water ... I was stunned at the number of sisters we had, too :)Dad and mom must have really been busy!

23! I guess that gives you plenty of choice...Bergen and Seattle would seem to have a lot in common.

Wow. Stunning colors. This is a magnificent photograph, by the way.

Very profligate! I wonder how many mayoral junkets have been made back & forth???? Sitting up the pointy end of Seattle's most famous product???

You made a beautiful choice with your photo, but with 23 sister cities, how did you decide on Bergen?! Thanks for visiting me in SD and I'm glad that you recognized the location. I should have borrowed some photos from you from your visit there, since I haven't been to Tijuana in more than 10 years!

Thanks for your interest in Cheltenham. To answer your question - yes. Cheltenham USA is in the State of Pennsylvania (there is also a Cheltenham in St. Louis, Missouri) and it is named because of the first settlers there being from Cheltenham UK.

Nice borrowed photo btw! Happy theme day :)

Sisters are alike! This Bergen harbor view is as beautiful as Seattle.

Perfect photo for Sister City Theme Day, Kim.

Oh, this is beautiful! I was there when I was about 16, but don't remember too much. I do remember that I liked the city though!

That's a lot of sister cities, but think of all the places you can visit! Is Seattle actively involved with each of them?

"Louis" didn't register for this meme, but he's had a splendid time visiting those who did.

21 sister cities! Goodness, that's an enormous number. Good to read of the connection between Seattle and Bergen and a lovely photo too by Jonas Smith.

Elaine is right about th rain in Bergen (it has a worse reputation than Manchester) - we got drowned there which is why I didn't recpognise the photo.

I suppose you has been difficult choosing one sister city. Although, I think a good choice for the city of Bergen. Beautiful photo of the port.
By the way, as is my first visit, I have taken a look at your latest photos, and I have liked. I had another vision of Seattle, more industrial. I liked your point of view.
And thanks for the comments you've made it at: murciadailyphoto.blogspot.com
