The lights of busy Harbor Island across Elliott Bay are glowing golden in the incandescent blue light of the evening, illuminating this view of the West Seattle hills from 8th Avenue West. Completed in 1909 and expanded in 1967, it was once the largest artificial island in the world. It is still busy night and day and is the sight of many industrial, scientific, and shipping companies. You can just see the red-orange container cranes that line the mouth of the Duwamish Waterway to the left.

Great shot! I love the lights and the cloud formation.
Very nice photo. I just don't get out at night anymore and since it is colder than a pump handle, I stay in with socks on.
I see a cozy room there, for Abraham to snuggle into. 8^)
Thanks Mark!
Good eye, and very clever US Elaine! Abe, looking out at the world from a cozy room is a fine idea. Here is my sock tip for you: Smartwool socks. I discovered them this summer and they are fabulous. Cushy, comfortable, sturdy, soft, wash and dry like a dream, and (I know you won't care about this part, Abe) cute, too. Come in men and women's. Even people who are driven crazy by the seams in the toes of socks will find these amazing. Great for by the fire or out in the elements. Come in thick or thin, too! Okay, so I bought some for my birthday. I love them. One pair is red. I'll shut up now. :-)

I'm all about the socks! Glad to know about this one.
This photo works on so many levels. Several kinds of lighting, at least two kinds of clouds, the harbor. This is a story photo for sure!
Great evening shot, and some good info.
Something very Hitchcock about this image, the rear window, and the sweeping bay under a gorgeous moody blue sky and even moodier blue water. Marvellous image.
Amazing photo. I like the way it has a nice cozy room and then show all the lights in the distance. Very nice
Like Elaine, I gravitated toward the foreground window with it's small diamond leaded glass detail. Lovely.
You've been traveling far and wide within the city over the past several days. The metro station was fun to see. Traveling via scooter I rarely see these commuter spots. Then the haircut in White Center. You do get around :)
Another amazing shot Kim.
Wow! What a striking photo. I really wanted to enlarge the photo and take a look at the cozy-looking window across from where the shot was taken, but couldn't seem to do so. At any rate, I do like the contrast between the warm, cozy home window, and the bright, busy lights across the water.
