Summer evenings invite people to linger outdoors. Here is a night photo I took of the walkway down the south side of Pier 70, the pier furthest north on Seattle's long, easy to stroll waterfront. It's the one that Uptown Espresso and the popular Waterfront Seafood Grill both call home and a great place to walk or just sit and enjoy the breeze while watching the ferries and ships come and go.

It looks quiet and maybe a little bit lonely on this night.

Does look like a warm summer night for sure. Hasn't our weather been great? Love the fact that it cools off so nicely at night!

I love how you photographed the lights and the mood of the colors are really neat.

Did you shoot this with a tripod? I notice you have many night shots? you walk around with it? or whats a typical setting you use for your shots at night? high iso problems? great shot!

Thanks Chuck and Lily!

Watchful, re. this shot, it is handheld ISO 1600. Usually when I'm shooting at night I do use a tripod and favor long exposures at ISO 100. I try all kinds of things, though, as I am learning what works for me and my particular cameras and lenses. I shot this with a very fast lens, too, 50mm f/1.2. One of my only peeves with Canon equipment is the poorer performance (slow to no auto focus) in very low light, even with appropriate settings. My daughter's point and shoot Sony often gets those shots more easily.

Kim, I'm looking through your back-photos, looking for a particular shot of a lady in red bellbottoms. You probably don't know that Pier 70 used to be the Coast Guard pier, back in the 50s. Captain of the Port was here on a three-deck floating barracks barge which was moored on the south side of the pier, and all the Coast Guard ships were moored here on the north side. It was funny because the Coast Guard didn't use the warehous part of the pier. It was empty. All of our activities were around the edges. I sailed from her a couple of times to Tahiti, Japan, Hawaii. Nice shot.
