September Moon Over Gas Works

September Moon Over Gas Works

On this first day of the US Labor Day weekend, heralding the end of summer and celebrating America's labor force, here is an industrial site that ceased its labors years ago and which is incorporated into a city park developed on its site at the north end of Lake Union. It's almost a full moon coming up over Gas Works Park. I was having an outdoor sunset dinner and wasn't aware of the moon phase, looked over, and there it was rising. I think September 3rd was the full moon. I liked the repeat of the 3 circular shapes.

You do have a knack for being in the right place at the right time and ready with your camera. This is an excellent shot.

hi Kim,
My boyfriend and I were at Gasworks this last Wednesday and you took our picture. We were close together in the sillouette of the sunset. I was hoping to get a copy of the hi res picture. You interduced yourself to us and said that our picture might be up here. Here is my email address: april.roybal102@gmail.com
I hope to hear from you. You have amazing photos, and can't wait to see the one you took of us! Thanks again :)

I noticed the compliment of the round objects right away. Very nice!

Nicely put together Kim. That's a neat park, and I imagine a nice place to watch the sunset.
Have a good weekend.

That looks like a peace symbol atop one of the structures. Is that what it really is?

Oh, that is just toooo good! I love it, and it's such an unusual way to photograph the much-photographed Gasworks Park.

Wow, I love this nature triumphing over industrial decay feeling! Thanks for visiting Molfetta Daily Photo and leaving such kind comments! I was in West Virginia in August, so nowhere near Seattle. If you are curious there are WVA shots on my Amid the Olive Trees blog. Best wishes!

Kim, your compositions allways amaze me and this shot is no exception!
Glad your daughter enjoyed Lisbon! She was lucky as we had a mild August... :-)

I always have mixed results with moon shots, and this one of yours is a beauty. Yes, the 3 circular objects add interest to the composition, but I also am attracted to the large verticals.

Thanks for your visit and kind comments re. my 3rd anniversary! Enjoy this last unofficial day to summer, Labor Day!

Thanks very much to each of you for stopping in and leaving a comment. i very much love hearing from you in this space :-).

And yes, Ed, that is a peace symbol rusting away on the left. And Kate, I am learning to shoot the moon when it first rises at twilight if I want to include other structures in the shot. The moons brightness and earthly objects in the darkness are very hard for me to capture. Most folks Photoshop a properly exposed moon into a night scene, and although I have plans to learn Photoshop next year, it's not something I expect to be able to do in my photos for a long time to come :-).

Mr. P, I always value your input on my shots, so thanks very much!
