The lobby of Seattle's 1914 Smith Tower is full of wonderful period details, including this fully functional ornate brass US Mail Box. The two shoots at the top go all the way up the building and allow people on the 35 office floors above to drop letters to go to the post office into the box on the first floor. As you can see, there is also a Starbuck's adjacent to the lobby.

wow i think you got the most beautiful mailbox off all
I agree with Don. I thought the R2D2 ones were fantastic until I saw this lovely golden one of yours.
This is a very posh looking box!
Astonishing box, best yet.
Does the mail from this box always go first class?
Susan, like any US Mail Box, one can place whatever class of mail one is posting. The Post Office sorts that out. The letters dropped in this box would probably be first class or third class (bulk mail).

You've got the gold medal for this one, Kim!
Beautiful mail box and lovely photo. Great choice, Kim.
wow Kim! a golden luxury mail box!
FANTASTIC! I wonder if anyone's letters ever get stuck in the shute? Bet they do!
Now that is one impressive mailbox! Gorgeous.
It is not only beautiful, but did anybody notice the Starbuck's? A letter and a latté all in the same place!
This is a beautiful one, Kim. The mail posted here must be so special.
Very good find. When I asked a local official where the oldest post office was in Greenville I was point to a post office which had recently be converted to a restaurant. So I had to go with something more modern.
This is the most beautiful mailbox I have seen, but I admit that I didn't see all DP-mailboxes.
Hey, Kim, I think Susan was asking tongue-in-cheek! She, along with the rest of us, felt astonished at this beautiful, classy mail box! Surely too classy to carry anything less than first class mail. Great shot!
I really like this mailbox!
Best looking mailbox I've seen so far!! :-D
I guess once upon a time Starbucks said Seattle, but now this mailbox could be anywhere in the world! (Except that few of us have such beautiful ones!)
Do all the letters get collected in the plastic box underneath. The box is a work of art.
Thanks so much, everyone, for dropping by and leaving your kind comments! Theme day is always fun.
Carol, thanks. . .DOH!
Gail's Man, I think th plastic box is used by a business upstairs that has oversized or bulk mail for the mail carrier to pick up.
Sally, undoubtedly!
Jenny, Yes. . .sigh, chain store businesses seem to have created the same landscapes around the globe.

Wow, that's a real beauty!
And, as usual, Starbucks is always at hand...
Cheers!
