Almost-full moon rise over Capital Hill and I-5 Freeway through Eastlake. This long exposure shot is straight out of the camera except for the border and copyright text. The blue lighting you see under the freeway is part of the art installation "Seventh Climate (Paradise Reconsidered)" at the newly opened I-5 Colonnade Park. This reclaimed bit of turf under the freeway is called "the first ever urban mountain bike skills park" by its creators, the Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance (formerly Backcountry Bicycle Trails Club). A joint project of EMBA and Seattle City Parks, I-5 Colonnade Park's bike skills facilities were built by volunteers who donated over 7000 hours of labor to create the city's newest, and possibly most unique park. I took this shot three nights after the park's grand opening in September, and that line across the moon was a jet in flight.

This is a nice shot, Kim. I would love to stay awake long enough to see the Moon but seldom do unless I happen to wake up at night and don't need a light to see where I am going because of Moon light.

Hey, thanks for stopping by my blog. No, I'm no longer in Seattle - I had a 2 1/2 hour layover there on my way to Denver. Unfortunately on the way back I don't go through Seattle. Next time I'm there for any significant amount of time I'll contact you. Coffee sounds good!

I love this photo! The moon is so beautiful.
Thanks so much, guys! That moon was a jaw dropper. I was talking with another photographer (a bike messenger/pro photographer who biked up to the outlook where I was). I happened to look left and saw that moon coming up quick above Capitol Hill. We both started snapping away. I didn't bother to change my tripod clip to my long lens' ring before changing lenses, and the imbalance of weight with my tripod's ball-head caused the camera to move ever so slowly downward so that most of the long exposure shots didn't turn out. Next time, I will not make that mistake again. But, I learned from the other photographer about a new tripod head design he'd purchased that moves in 3 directions without the ball-joint yet able to move fluidly and rapidly into any kind of position and which I will save my pennies for. Someone needs to warn people before they get into this that you need a second job to support the habit! :-)
