Can a Wasp Make a "Beeline"?

We went out to a pumpkin patch in Woodinville yesterday. Most of the sunflowers nearby were brown and dried and bowed low to the ground, but there were a few hold outs. This one attracted a wasp. I'm afraid all the red winged black birds had eaten most of the dried sunflowers' seeds. For the first time since our fam started its tradition of pumpkin patch visits, we didn't end up getting a pumpkin. For years the rule was you could only choose a pumpkin you could carry from the field by yourself (which helped little people with bigger eyes than our budget in check). We stopped at Minea Farms Cider Mill and bought fresh pressed cider, spiced cider, Fuji apple butter that had just been made and was still warm, and blackberry honey in a bear shaped glass jar. What treats! Hope you are enjoying your fall Sunday! (Or your spring Sunday down there in the SoHem ;^) .)

Wonderful sight of bright yellow surrounded by green. Nice.

I just now discovered the wasp. Sorry I missed it the first time.

Wow, what a great shot. It's almost as if the wasp has stolen the show from the beautiful sunflower. At first it's what draws your attention - the bright yellow and green against the beautiful blue sky. Then you see the wasp, and suddenly that's all you can see. The wasp is a spotlight stealer!

Great image, the negative space frames the flower well. Almost like Hokusai's wave composition flipped on its side.

This is just a great photograph, colours, the sharpness of the images, the composition, beautiful!

Sounds like a wonderful day Kim. Today was in the mid-70s down here. Hope you had the same.

What a spectacular picture! I bet you were so happy when you saw it turned out the way it did.

Wooo! Nic shot! I made a very similar one last July right here: http://yankee-in-belgrade.blogspot.com/2008/07/abc-wednesday-y-buzzing-in-on-yellow.html

Kim, I love the caption for this photo. Catching a wasp in flight is quite an acccomplishment!

Thanks very much to each of you for commenting. That wasp entered the frame on my third click and landed on the flower in my fourth. I had to stop peering through the viewfinder to see if I was seeing things.

Eli, you have that artist's way of seeing things spatially and making connections. I would never have seen that in the composition.
Suz, fun to find your blog through your comment. And, yes I was! I loved the way its front most legs are just dangling down at its sides, so casually. Something I could never have "seen" if the shutter hadn't frozen the moment for me to observe. That's what I love most about using a camera to "see" through. It gives us time and space to really LOOK at something.

Bibi, I remember that lovely shot!

Becky, I think you are right about that!

Kris, Why thank you very much, sir. And how was Henry's happpy birthday? He, Abe, and I have birthday's all in a row. I'm sure Henry enjoyed his the very most of any of us, though. ;^)

Abe, have you recuperated from your birthday fun? Thank you very much. I will be getting over to your blog for a big reading fest later in the week. I noticed Strangetastes had visited your old town in Japan! What are the chances of two Daily City Bloggers visiting the same Japanese town more than 50 years apart?

Kate, Thank you. It wasn't so much an accomplishment as a serendipitous occurrence. Very fun to have it work out that way. It won't be very long before we won't see any wasps as it is getting colder here (and in Saint Paul, too, I bet).
