This cool vintage Doge Lancer was such a beaut I just had to get a curbside shot as I walked by. The owner was present and let me take an interior shot of the dashboard push-button transmission that I remembered my friend Roma's car had when we were in college. . .I think hers was a Valiant, though. It was vintage back when we were riding around in it, and I always thought those buttons were pretty novel. Nice to see a classic still being used for transportation. Long may you run.

If you're a long time visitor to SDP, you may remember this similar serendipitous find from March 2007.

Peace, brother. I remember these cards. One of my boyfriends had a Valiant...ah, those were the days. I like this photo, of course all the more because of the good-natured driver!

That first image is divine. The context for that cherry vehicle rivals the vehicle itself in class and beauty.

There were a lot more Valiants than Lancers in Vancouver. I don't recall the Lancer back in the 60s at all.

The typewriter transmission was a Chrysler novelty for a few years. Edsel tried it too (in the centre of the steering wheel) and we know what happened to the Edsel.

«Louis» likes it!
The 1956 Packards (scroll down) had push button controls on their "Twin Ultramatic Drive" automatic transmissions. Chrysler introduced push button transmission controls the same year. Chrysler went back to the conventional column shift in 1965.

Fantastic photo! I love the car, as well as the alley behind it, with flowering trees and colors...

When I saw "cruise" in the title I was expecting a nice boat but I find it is car-cruising which alas fails to excite me - never mind.
