They Never Come Off

They Never Come Off

You can meet artisans of all kinds at the Market. I was intrigued by all her silver bracelets, any one of which was awesome, but taken together the effect was stunning. My personal fave was one featuring a variety of sea mammals. The producer selling from one of the day stalls looked so colorful in her sunburst tie dye shirt that I asked to take this shot isolating her bracelets against that intense color. Now I regret that I didn't chat with her more and ask her name. She told me that she never removes the bracelets, and I was impressed. I did that with a little silver band my dad brought me from a trip to Mexico when I was 7 or 8. I wore it night and day for so long that dad finally had to cut it off with tin snips because my arm had grown and it was tight around my wrist. She is very much enjoying wearing her artful creations.

I love the story about the bracelet your father gave you. I wonder what happens when she has to go through airport security.

Interesting. I can't imagine going it, though, but I'm glad you got the photo and the story for us.

I like the "peace, love & pineapples" slogan. I realise I may be showing my ignorance because I got a lot of "hits" on Google when I typed the phrase in. But then I've never been to Hawaii.
In any case, this is a lovely and very striking picture. It looks as though she has tattoos under the rings as well.

I thought at first glance you meant her tatoos - which obviously also never come off. I'm distracted all day if I wear one bracelet. I can't imagine all that clinking all the time!

I suppose after a while it became her "normal", so for the most part she doesn't even think about them being there. Yeah, I like the shirt too. What a melting pot the market is. I love it there.

I guess she did stand out a bit!

Oh, and you will probably be very good at shooting a few stranger portraits if you gave it a go!

Kim, her name is Betty Bennett and she is number 3 on the market seniority list ... which means she has been at the market since the late 1960s.

Wooo! Rings on her fingers...did she have bells on her toes, too? When I was in a bar and grill in Purdy, there was a biker with an armful of tattoos and bracelets. I asked him if I could take a photo of them, and he said okay, but he had to tell me the story behind them first...

Another excellent photo. I'm glad you didn't include the face because it would distract the viewers from the beautiful designs and colors from her neck down.
