This family was going all out in their decorating for little Trick or Treaters. It's fun to see the effort people put into delighting the children and making such a memorable Halloween presentation for them.

. . .boo, boo, boo!
We are out to scare you,
Boo, boo, boo!
We have teeth but cannot bite,
See our glowing candle light.
We are Jack O'Lanterns,
Boo, boo, boo! BOO!

That's a little song I think a group of my friends and I made up in elementary school. Seeing this grouping of carved pumpkins on a front porch brought the memory back.

In view of Lake Washington I came across this display of colorful kayaks at Sand Point. They helped to brighten up the overcast afternoon.

Seems like everybody wants to get into the end of October act :-). I saw this Smart Car in West Seattle advertising for Luna Park Cafe. Luna Park was a beloved turn of the last century West Seattle amusement park and you can read all about it here. The cafe is near the site of the now defunct attraction once called the Coney Island of the West. Note the circus performer featured in the logo is wearing an Elvis-style 70s collar :-). Have you and your kids picked out costumes for Halloween yet? Maybe you'd like to dress up as Juan Uribe? ( :-) Go Giants!)

These were such interesting Seattlites, a couple chatting on cellphones, others having a smoke, some walking their dogs, one locking up his bike, and others apparently just hanging out in front of the Uptown Blockbuster storefront, I just had to snap it. :-) So, have you gone on a Seattle haunted Market tour?

Meanwhile, over in Ballard, I came across another bike parked at night. This one was locked to an ornamental Ginkgo leaf gate and sported boat oars/paddles in its basket.

I liked this red bike in a teal rack with the purple of the station in the background. This was a night scene near King Street Station in the International district.

There are many ways to tour Seattle, but this one has got to be thrilling. I was on Queen Anne Hill when this yellow tour helicopter with it's passenger and pilot clearly visible buzzed past me.

Seattle air traffic is always fascinating to me. This copter was passing by at twilight and I like the way the camera captured the blades rotating.

Here's a feature I had noticed on some boots in Capitol Hill five years ago because it was broken and the wearer had tied a bit of red string about her ankle to keep the boot on. I guess the zipper makes putting on your lace-up Doc Martins a quick affair, and these I spotted in Wallingford are in working order :-).

A float plane over Lake Union passes Gas Works Park as it prepares to land. I never tire of watching the flights come and go, and sometimes wonder at all the boat and plane traffic maneuvering on the lake in the graceful ballet of air and water craft that plays out here daily.

I found this sunflower face in a wonderful ceramic mosaic storefront on Cherry Street in the Central District. The place was once an upscale New Orleans themed restaurant called La Louisiana, then was the home of Joanna's Soul Cafe and Jazz Club, and for the last year has been the new digs of the popular Twilight Exit bar and restaurant. I have no clue who created the large work three businesses or more ago, but it is a fun find.

You may be tired of this seemingly endless string people watching shots, but bear with me for just one more :-). I thought from a distance this woman in a gray miniskirt, black hat, coat, opaque leggings, and boots  was a college student with great fashion sense, but when she turned to look at me I saw an artistic elder sister. Probably a shopkeeper at one of the nearby upscale University Village stores.

Reflecting

I caught a glimpse of a man hanging out on a dock, deep in thought, near these brightly colored ship-shape boats.  Countless people have learned to sail these at the Center for Wooden Boats. And aren't the lines of the boat being rowed in the background pretty? Someone built a real beauty. Just another day in the life of a city surrounded by water. In this case, it is Lake Union.

Hey, thanks to the 499 folks following SDP through Google Friend Connect. I am wondering who will be #500? We should know in a day or two :-).

Update:  Woo hoo! Fellow photoblogger Larry Jeffreys of Los Alamos Daily Photo became the 500th follower via Google Friend Connect. Thanks Larry! And, thanks to everyone, known or unknown, that visits SDP regularly or subscribes to the RSS feed. You guys are wonderful!

Misty Moisty Morning

This was the fog this morning with eastern light silhouetting a plume of steam, the Aurora Bridge in the distance, electrical towers, and the masts, booms, and roof lines along Salmon Bay. It burned off by mid day and revealed a sunny, glorious, blue sky autumn day. I literally shot this by pointing the camera one handed in the general direction of this scene through the open car window without looking while driving mid-span on the Ballard Bridge. It's not something I usually do, but the light and fog was just too different to miss the shot.

Romance is alive and well on the streets of Seattle, although this couple was passing by Tiffany's rather than exiting from it. Perhaps a sign of the times, and one that Atlas there may not be thrilled about :-).

Three American icons of the silver screen with reflected sparkles seen through a Seattle shop window. Each of these folks did become "filthy rich," but I'm not sure Charlie was much into jewelry.

When there were only five or six of them in cities around the world, maybe they were interesting for tourists to collect an exotic shirt from. Now that there are 140 of them. . . well, the completests will go broke trying to eat at them all :-). At least the vast chain is owned by the Seminole tribe of Florida now, and I hope they find they made a good investment. Seattle's Hard Rock is less than a year old and is just steps from Pike Place Market. I've taken photos of the neon guitar several times, night and day, and this is the first shot with which I've been pleased.

They all just intrigued me. So much so that even though the sharpness in this quick shot isn't what I would like, I still really liked looking at these folks gathered on a corner of Mercer Ave.

Skywatch: Seattle Streetcar Barn

Seattle Streetcar Barn
Photo & Text © 2010 Kim- Seattle Daily Photo. All rights reserved; no use, alteration, reproduction or republishing in any media.
The Seattle Streetcar barn has this nice graphic on its west elevation. I've always wondered if the prominent huge lettering was an attempt to turn around use of the cute acronym people were first using as the name of the streetcar line linking the Cascade neighborhood and its rapid development of new buildings to house expanded biomedical and high tech web-based businesses with the downtown core. It is likely that the streetcar system will be expanded to other areas of Seattle, like First Hill.  I don't hear it called the South Lake Union Trolly or S.L.U.T. much anymore. Occasionally I'll see a T-shirt like this.

To see some incredible skies around the globe, join us at Skywatch Friday.

. . .on a beautiful, sunshiny autumn day in Seattle. I'm not the only one out for a walk today. The streets, parks, and trails are full of walkers, runners, cyclists, their dogs, whole families out and about and enjoying the change of season to fall.

A couple guys were chatting outside the Alibi Room when I took this twilight shot in Post Alley. All the usual suspects are present: The Market Theater gum wall, the theater's neon sign, the Post Alley sign in the distance, the alleyway lamps and the light patterns they form, the street artists stickers and posters on the right hand wall, the Alibi Room's neon sign, that patch of blue hour light, and running through it all, a trickle of water through the cobblestones

A guy in an apron hanging out taking a break above Post Alley. People often lock their bikes to the railing along the walkway along Pike Place above. Another in my little series of what is turning out to be "Just Plain Seattlites Hanging Out" this week. We all like to do a little people watching now and again :-).

I passed by the window of a Tulley's Coffee on NW Market Street and saw this tableau of a guy with a 12 string guitar and three friends sitting in front of the fireplace apparently having and impromptu sing along. It was fun to see.

Its a typical situation in these typical times
Too many choices

Everybody's happy everybody's free
We'll keep the big door open, everyone'll come around
Why are you different, why are you that way
If you don't get in line we'll lock you away,
Aw everybody's happy everybody's free
We'll keep the big door open, everyone'll come around
Why are you different, why are you that way
If you don't get in line we'll lock you away

City Daily Photo Bloggers from around the world today are featuring graffiti, the work of talented street artists or amateurs. I came across this dapper dude in an alley in the Uptown neighborhood. Art to dance by. . ."I'm. . .putting on my top hat. . . taking just a little nip. . .dusting off my tails. . . :-). Sing it, Fred!
