No, you are not seeing things. These trees ARE bright blue. And, no, Dr. Souse and I did not create these through the magic of some photo process. They are the work of Australian artist Konstantin Dimopoulos. He has installations of blue trees in several nations now and is trying through these works to draw attention to the global problem of deforestation. The blue hue is not paint, but a wash made from water and a crushed blue stone called azurite. Over time the the blue is expected to fade and wash away with the rain. This installation took place in April, and the bark is still very vivid. Seen with the seasonal lights, its quite a surreal tangle. It's my Driven to Abstraction offering for you this week.
