Theme Day: Water

In the Midst of Mists

Photo & Text Copyright 2008 Seattle Daily Photo. All rights reserved, including reproduction or republishing.

Water envelops one half of this sculpture installation at a time. This father in Father and Son by Louise Bourgeois is in the midst of mists. Sometimes he is shrouded from view by high water, at others, as in the photo, it's his son that is hidden from view. On this particular day, there is even water above him in the clouds as well as water below. For an overview of the whole fountain which resides in Olympic Sculpture Park, click here and here.

Water flows around the globe today, and you can see just about every creative manifestation of it by visiting these City Daily Photo Blogs. Your journey through 178 cities begins here:

Kim, this is beautiful. I've only had one opportunity to visit Seattle (last May) and I missed this. One more reason to come back!

Lovely, lovely shot. I love how you captured the flow of the water; looks a bit like individual strands of cotton candy. Bravo.

This is such a great addition to the waterfront. We visited in January and had the whole park to ourselves. Great night shot!

Great shot. I haven't been to the Sculpter Park yet--don't get down that way much. Water day, eh. MB

Very dramatic, beautiful capture.

Happy theme day.

the statue seems to take its shower and to leave a cloud at the same time

Gorgeous. You got the light and shutter speed just right. I like Bourgeois' work, too, but I don't think we have any around here. On the other hand, a naive viewer could interpret this as a new bathing facility for Seattle's homeless.

Lovely shot, Kim. . .Lovely shot. I also like the music today.

Funny thing. . .When we were in Seattle a few years ago, it rained only once early one morning. It was great!

There is an exhibition around Louise Bourgeois in Paris just now, in Beaubourg Museum I think, I must check...
Please Kim, could you tell me the tittle of this music on your blog? I really like it very much.

Great play on water. i like the contrast of the dark blue sky and bright white fountain, both in fluid contrast to the stationary stature.

Wow, its a great lighting effect. Very nice.
Thanks for comment on Nelson and answer to your question is that both shots were taken with Tamron 17-50.
The theme-day shot was at the 17mm end and runner up one is at the 50mm end.
