Fremont Floating Home

Fremont Floating Home

Living the dream in Fremont. . . Okay, the line forms behind me, guys, and I call dibs on that top room for my studio :-). Today is the due date for income taxes for US residents, and property taxes for King County, Washington home owners; so, dream or not, I'm actually thankful I don't have to contend with the nightmare of this tax bracket for the occasion. Oh, and I can hear you asking if the famous Sleepless in Seattle houseboat, which is just across the ship canal from this Fremont location in the Westlake neighborhood (I showed you here last year), is still for sale. The answer is yes (go here for tons of photos and a video tour of the Lake Union's reportedly largest and most well-known floating home, remodeled since Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson, and Rob Reiner shot scenes on board for the popular 1993 film). The Sleepless houseboat has been on the market for a year now and sale price is still listed at 2.5 million. Its current yearly property taxes are $6449 USD. Makes this newer, smaller Fremont marina floating home in today's photo seem like its taxes would probably be a bargain in comparison.

Wow! Fabulous photo. Fantastic place! I just wonder who lives there, what their lives are like.

I can maybe pay the yearly taxes, but can't afford the home, ha, ha. I do like to look at these places though when in Seattle.

What a lovely home but I'm not sure I'd like the close proximity to everyone else right there. I"m betting you'll be back to capture those colorful kayaks on the right in daylight!!!!

I'm not nearly near owning a floating home (or a home for that matter). I'm on the verge of a divorce and won't end wealthier from it.

Love the perfect reflection here. The glistening mirror effect is amazing!

Kim I'm sorry I'm having to catch up on about a week's worth of photos - each of them deserves a special comment, they're so good and thought provoking too.

Your guitarist caught up in half shade-half light is excellent, your airplane heading straight for the brick wall (what else than 9/11???), your brillant red and purple leaf with droplets, your cell phone on the beach photo (how I agree with your comment, absolutely, desperately!!!!)... all deserve special acknowledgment.

Keep up the good work, I love it.

What a beautiful photo, Kim - and yes, I guess the houseboat is rather attractive too! Nice choice of dibsing the top storey and fair enough, you deserve it.

Quality photo. Probably a little too expensive, but it does look kinda nice.

Kim: Excellent photo. How you describe the photo; however, is exceptional. I feel like I am in Seattle when I look at your work. You are very talented as a writer and a photographer. Keep it up!

Thanks guys! I think there is room for all of us, so maybe if we pool our money we can start a City Daily Photo floating commune. . .Steffe, your bike could fit nicely on the back deck. V, you wouldn't even notice the closeness of the neighbors here because this is the only home and the rest are small boats. Of course, something tells me there would be a lot of looky loos and people with cameras going by on the Burke-Gilman trail :-).

Karen, SO nice to hear from you! And, you know this blog is all your fault, right? (Karen used to be my boss, but I left her for full time mommy-hood. Just before I did our camera was stolen. Karen couldn't stand the thought of us not having a camera with a six month old about, so bent the arms of the two other executives in our office and as a parting gift they presented me with a wonderful SLR camera and super lens she picked out to replace the stolen one. And just last school year, that little baby used that very camera for a school photography class, and regularly goes out shooting with me or friends and loves messing about with cameras. So big, big thanks for your influence, support, and encouragement, Karen. I just wish all my blog friends could see your work--she shoots with Hasselblads, folks!)

Harold, I'm noticing your last name, and if your family is from the PA or mid-Atlantic region, we may share some ancestors.

Thank you so much for blogging about this house. When I originally saw it in the movie I fell in love with it. Now I can actually go see it! :)

Your daily photos are wonderful. I can't live in Seattle (yet) but this is like a daily piece of heaven for me until I get there.
