The Orange Panther?

The Orange Panther?

The Seattle Streetcar came purring around the track at South Lake Union while I was out walking. It was separated from the pedestrian walkway I was on by only a foot-wide bedding of flowering lavender. The brightly colored streetcars started rolling through the Cascade neighborhood at the south end of Lake Union last December and were lovingly dubbed the SLUT, for South Lake Union Trolley. Sacrebleu! The cars come in Jolly Rancher colors of red, purple, and orange, and I especially like the photo-graphics of the Space Needle featured on the exteriors (left rear in this photo). Input from neighbors in Capitol Hill, Fremont, Ballard, and the Univeristy District is currently being sought about planned streetcar route expansions through those areas. Hop on board and REALLY expand the route to Melbourne, Australia, where we can wish John congrats on two years of Melbourne in Photos today!

I'm hoping that the recent fuel prices have a silver lining. Perhaps it will expand and improve our rail system and get alternative energy going. I lived in Europe and Asia and loved the train system. You can walk to most local stations and get anywhere you want. I would take a train to work in a heart beat.

Can't wait to see one.

Ooo, red and lavender! Beautiful photo, which somehow reminds me of when I bought a deep purple coat and the lady said any color could go with it. And actually, purple matches more than you think! I must ride on this streetcar when I come.

We headed down the Wooden Boat Festival this past weekend. Purple and orange slups abound! I posted some images on my old blog: http://cairogal.blogspot.com

Medi Kiwi, Why, thank you very much.

Mr. Bagpiper Sir, I was so spoiled with the BART trains and SF MUNI streetcars. Bless the foresight of planners who put those BART lines in during the 1970s. Too easy! Traveling east west across Seattle at commute hours is something I avoid at all costs, as it makes the SoCal traffic I grew up in look fast!

Mary Helen, they only have a short run so far, but feel very metropolitan!

Bibi, YES about lavender/purple. I have a handknit coat length sweater that combines lavender, orange and red quite successfully. They are naturals together in color theory, and in the Jolly Rancher bag! I'm sure your coat looks fab with so many colors and nutrals.

Abu Dabi, I just took a peek at all your photos there. I have some evening photos of all those palces from just this week! We have to get together!

RAF, Thanks a bunch.

And to everyone, Thanks so much for leaving comments. With my mom's illness I've been cramped for computer time and so have not been able to respond to your comments or visit you as I would like. Thanks for your patience and understanding if I'm more silent than usual. I will pop in as I can to see your photos or respond!

Sorry! When I wrote my above nag about the forum game I hadn't read your note about your mother's illness.

Hope she's feeling better soon.

Beautiful! I think Portland (OR) has similar streetcars as well.

Kim! I just realized that you totally Photoshopped this! LOL! Very clever... Better to be a panther than a slut any day.

All the best to you and your mom.

US Elaine, well, I don't have Photoshop, but I'll cop to having some fun with symbols and typeface in Picnic ;^). The driver just looked so "Clousaeu." You and Benjamin were the only ones who noticed the obvious.

Lovely shot, well captured and I am jealous because I wish that we had a light rail line here in Hobart!
